Seychelles
ABOUT

The atolls of the Outer Seychelles are what saltwater fly fishing dreams about. Reached by mothership across the Indian Ocean from Mahé, these are some of the most pristine, least-fished flats on earth. Bonefish in numbers that don't exist anywhere else. Giant trevally so aggressive they will take a fly off the surface in three feet of water. Milkfish, bumphead parrotfish, Indo-Pacific permit, and the kind of triggerfish that have entered the fly fishing imagination only in the last twenty years. This is not a destination for a first-time saltwater angler. It is the destination for the angler who has fished everywhere else and is ready for the trip that recalibrates what's possible.

WHY HERE

Why Seychelles?

Seychelles

The Seychelles atolls are uninhabited or near-uninhabited coral formations 500 miles southwest of the main islands. The flats are vast, the water is clear enough to see fish from a hundred feet away, and the rod pressure is among the lowest on earth — a single mothership serves the atoll for a week at a time, and many of the flats see fewer than 200 anglers per year. This is the only destination where a "grand slam" might include species most anglers can't name. The giant trevally is the apex predator. The milkfish, hooked on a fly, is one of the most powerful fish in the sport. The triggerfish is the strangest puzzle in saltwater fly fishing — beautiful, frustrating, and increasingly the species serious anglers travel to chase. A trip here is a real commitment. It is also the trip that anglers describe for decades.

Best Time to Visit Seychelles

October - November

The season opens. Excellent giant trevally action as fish move onto the flats. Generally settled weather.

December - January

Peak season for giant trevally. Bonefish abundant. The window most anglers target if they can get a slot.

February - March

Peak triggerfish and bumphead parrotfish window. Settled weather, less wind. Often the most technical and rewarding fishing of the year.

April

Season closes. Variable weather but still excellent fishing when the windows open. Often the best value if you can be flexible.

May - September

Off season. Monsoon. Most operations closed.
